Privacy Policy

Effective April 27, 2026

Overview

VolleyVision respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If you don’t agree with any part of this policy, please don’t use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you sign up we collect your name, email address, and a hashed password. Profile data — sex, date of birth, height, standing reach, hitting hand, position, years playing, self-reported vertical, and any goal you provide — is collected from the questionnaire so we can scale measurements and personalize the coach output.

Uploaded clips. When you upload a video, we receive and store the source file plus the derived analysis output (per-frame pose data, computed metrics, event frames, coach responses, and the rendered overlay video).

Usage data. Standard server logs (IP address, request timestamps, user agent strings) are kept for security, debugging, and abuse prevention.

Payment data. If you purchase a subscription, payment information is collected and handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We never see or store your full card number; we only receive a token, the subscription status, and the last four digits.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide the swing-analysis Service and all its features.
  • Authenticate and secure your account.
  • Send transactional email — sign-up confirmation, password reset, receipts, and important service notices.
  • Improve the Service through aggregated, anonymized analytics (e.g., distributions of pipeline detection rates, average response times) — never tied back to individual users.
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud or abuse.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not use your specific video content to train models that benefit other users.

3. Storage and Security

  • Account and analysis data is stored in our backend database hosted by Render.
  • Uploaded videos and rendered overlay videos live on encrypted persistent volumes.
  • All traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted over HTTPS (TLS).
  • Passwords are hashed with bcrypt; we never store them in plaintext.
  • Production system access is limited to authorized personnel.

No system is perfectly secure, but we apply industry-standard practices and respond promptly to security concerns.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We rely on the following providers, each of which processes your data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations:

  • Vercel — hosts our web frontend.
  • Render — hosts our backend API and stores your data.
  • Stripe — processes subscription payments.
  • Groq — receives a compact, privacy-minimized snapshot of your swing metrics (no name, email, or video) to generate AI-coach text responses.

We do not share your information with anyone else without your consent, except where required by law or to enforce our Terms.

5. Cookies and Tracking

We use minimal cookies — primarily for authentication and session continuity. We do not run third-party advertising trackers or cross-site analytics on the Service.

6. Your Rights and Choices

  • Access: view the data we hold about you through your profile and dashboard.
  • Update: change profile fields any time on the profile page.
  • Delete: request account deletion by emailing us. We remove your account, profile, uploaded clips, and analysis history from active systems within thirty days.
  • Export: request a copy of your analysis history in a machine-readable format.

If you reside in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, you have additional rights under the GDPR or CCPA (including the right to object to processing and the right to data portability). Contact us to exercise them.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it as soon as practicable.

Users between 13 and 18 must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to use the Service. If you upload video that depicts minors, you represent that you have obtained appropriate consent from each minor’s parent or legal guardian.

8. Data Retention

We keep your account information and analyses for as long as your account is active. After account deletion, we remove your personal data from active systems within thirty days, except where we are required to retain it longer for legal, accounting, or security purposes (for example, payment records required by tax law).

9. International Transfers

VolleyVision is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect the current version.
